iPolity Vision

One day, every community will have its own internet Town Hall. In a world where there is so much that keeps people apart, these places will make it easier for neighbors to meet and work together. There doors will always be open to a neutral ground whose purpose is to help evolve discussion into action.

These spaces will have traditions that not only encourage people to better understand one another's differences, but that also ask them to work together where they have something in common. This will not be just another place where people are told what to believe. Instead, these spaces will help individuals further their own understanding of issues by insisting that they substantiate their positions and by exposing them to people who think differently than they do. To counter the effects of mass media committed principally to profits instead of truth, these environments will focus attention on the substance of arguments rather than divisive punditry, stereotypes, and labels.

These communities will raise up new leaders who prove themselves by uniting people around what they have in common; leaders who inspire the best in them. This more aware and involved citizenry will be better able to protect their leaders from corruption through their collective vigilance. All these things will revitalize democracy and further the cause of liberty.

We work for that day.
