Question
If Google has a hard time getting users to upgrade their phone to the latest OS, what lessons can we all draw from this?

Response
If you want to help your users take advantage of new tools, you have to make access to those new tools as easy as Apple does with the iPhone.

Your wondering why this has anything to do with your life as an activist. Most activist groups are in the business of helping their users/constituents take political action. Increasingly this is done through technology.

Even with all its technology savvy, Google has trouble getting it''s users to upgrade. The latest ADMob Mobile Metrics Report shows that Google Android users are not upgrading their OS at anywhere near the rate Apple iPhone users are. It's easy to think that all the technical advantages of the new OS are compelling enough reasons for users to upgrade, but the example to pay attention to is Apple's.

Apple sends their users text messages to let them know about important upgrades. When you connect your iPhone to iTunes, you receive an immediate prompt letting you know there is a new operating system for your iPhone just a click away. Once clicked, everything else is taken care of for you.

Now Google has many features in it's latest OS that are better than Apple's, but if users don't upgrade to take advantage of them, they will never know the difference. Any time your are trying to distinguish the services you provide over other alternatives, it's useful to know that adoption must be seamless.
